State-of-the-art model for automatic background removal
FeyNoBg is a state-of-the-art automatic background removal model developed by Feyn Labs. It achieves top performance across eight benchmarks, matching or beating leaders on four metrics. The model is built on an enhanced BiRefNet architecture with an expanded third stage (24 blocks instead of 18) to better balance foreground recognition and boundary precision.
Background removal is challenging for complex images with hair, motion blur, or low contrast. FeyNoBg handles these by combining localization and reconstruction modules. The model was trained on a diverse dataset of 26.1K images from 10 sources, covering crowded scenes, camouflage, high resolution, portraits, and anime.
FeyNoBg is open source and available through the NoBg library on GitHub or as a pre-trained model on Hugging Face. It is designed for developers, researchers, and anyone needing high-quality background removal.
FeyNoBg posts the best published S-measure on four of eight benchmarks and comes within 2% of the leader on the rest, including ultra-high-resolution datasets like UHRSD-TE.
Built on BiRefNet with the third stage expanded from 18 to 24 blocks (263M parameters), giving the model additional capacity to learn both foreground localization and boundary reconstruction.
Trained on 26.1K images from 10 datasets covering crowded scenes, camouflage, high-resolution subjects, portraits, and anime to ensure robustness across scenarios.
The NoBg library is released alongside the model, allowing users to run FeyNoBg or train custom background removal models. Available on GitHub.
FeyNoBg can be downloaded and used directly from Hugging Face for easy integration.
Designed to accurately handle hair, fur, thin wires, and motion blur with precise opacity predictions for boundary pixels.
FeyNoBg achieves state-of-the-art results on four of eight benchmarks (UHRSD-TE, HRSOD-TE, DIS5K, DAVIS-S) and is within 2% of the leader on the remaining benchmarks like DUTS-TE and COD10K-TE.
Yes, FeyNoBg is open source. The pre-trained model is available on Hugging Face, and the training library NoBg is available on GitHub.
FeyNoBg is based on BiRefNet with an expanded third stage (24 blocks instead of 18), increasing parameters from 222M to 263M.
It was trained on a curated mix of 26.1K images from 10 datasets, including S3OD, MaskFactory, DIS5K, DUTS, COD10K, UHRSD, P3M-10K, HRSOD, CAMO, and Anime.
Yes, the NoBg library supports training custom background removal models. You can use it to fine-tune FeyNoBg or build a new model from scratch.
It performs well on high-resolution images (including 4K and 8K), portraits, anime, crowded scenes, and images with complex edges like hair and motion blur.
