Fix slow UniFi PPPoE performance with external offloading
ArcBox Labs' blog post documents a real fix for the dreaded UniFi PPPoE performance problem. UniFi gateways such as the UDM Pro, UDM SE, UDM Pro Max, and EFG ship with CPUs that lack PPPoE and NAT hardware acceleration, so when paired with a PPPoE-based ISP connection, throughput collapses to a fraction of the rated line speed. The post explains why PPPoE is slow (single-threaded encap/decap pinned to one CPU core) and offers a practical alternative to waiting for a firmware fix that can never address the hardware root cause: hand PPPoE dialing off to a separate device.
